  Inquiry Learning
Investigations is an approach to integrated curriculum that involves:
  • Students using an inquiry approach to investigate 'BIG' questions
  • Students using thinking tools to investigate, build and present their understandings
  • Students demonstrating their understandings and skills by planning and implementing an 'authentic action'
  • Teachers establishing their students' prior knowledge
  • Teachers planning to reflect learning foci and standards
  • Teachers tuning students into investigations
  • Teachers planning for focus skills - English, Mathematics and ICT
  • Teachers planning and implementing ongoing formative and summative assessment.

Andrea has led the development of this whole school approach for the past two years. She is able to bring current school experience and many examples to support the professional learning of others.

Andrea is currently writing tasks cards based on Inquiry Learning. 'Tuning in with Topics' is a series of three books for lower, middle and upper primary that celebrates teaching and learning partnerships in schools.

The series promotes an inquiry learning approach in which students become active participants in constructing their learning. Twelve rich topics have been selected to spark the imagination, promote discussion and engage students in their investigations. The topics are familiar to teachers but extend their application through big questions, thinking skills and strategies, ICT, authentic action in the local community.

‘Tuning in with Topics’ Lower is now available!
